Value Scale and Letter Design due!

Students continued working on their Value Scales and Letter Design.

Once students completed their Value Scales and Letter Design they begand gridding their photos with a 1/2in grid and large paper 1.5 times bigger.

Academy Art 1 Sept 30th

Students worked on their Create-a-Line sampler thumbnails. Once completed they chose their favorite design to recreate in a larger 6"x6" box. The final drawing must be refined and have more detailed/intricate line variation.

Art II Thursday Aug 30th

Students were assigned a value scale warmup and a letter value design drawing.

The value scale has 9- 1in boxes that demonstrate understanding of layering multiple drawing pencils from darkest to lightest.

The Letter Value Design is a drawing of a letter in a 6"x5" composition that demonstrates multiple values a long with implied line.

Value Scale and Letter Design is due on Monday Sept 10th.

Students also began taking self-portrait photos.

ART II First Day!

Syllabus
Today we will review and learn about Academy Painting/Drawing III including class and behavior expectations, grading, projects, etc. We will review the different websites that are used in the class.

Figure drawing
In table groups students will be modeling and figure drawing. Each student will pose twice. The first pose will be a quick one minute pose and the second will be a 6 minute pose. Each student that finishes their pose will hand me their Model bio sheet.

Vocabulary
Contour line drawing- Outline of a figure, shape or mass.
Continuous contour line drawing- Outline of a figure shape or mass with out lifting your drawing utensil for the duration of the drawing.

Self Portrait Mind Map and Photos
The first major project of the year will be a self portrait drawing. In order for students to get an idea of how they would like to be depicted they must first complete a Self Reflecting Mind Map. The map will include their name in the middle with 5 different categories branching out: How students view themselves, how they believe others view them, their ideal self, how they are currently feeling, and what their favorite music genre is. Each category must have at least 10 descriptive words, 5 sentences or drawings.

Homework
$20 Art material fee (Or signed note) Due by 9/10
Next class we will be taking self portrait photos. Come prepared

Academy Art 1 First Day!


Welcome to your first day of The Westwood Highschool Performing Arts Academy!

Syllabus
Today we will review the syllabus and learn about Academy ART 1 including class and behavior expectations, grading, projects, etc. Each student will receive a printed syllabus for the ART 1 course. Parents need to review the syllabus and students are held responsible for the content. 

Expectations
The classroom expectations will be thoroughly explained along with an example of the work ethic and the effort expected for each assignment. The classroom expectations are outlined in the pages tab above.

Partner Interviews
Each student will be assigned a partner to interview and will introduce their partner to the class.

Homework
Signed Syllabus, Contact Info, and Material Usage fee. All due by Sept. 7th.

Art IV Painting and Drawing Overview.


This year you will be creating a series of artworks with a common theme(s).  Imagine that you are creating artwork for your own gallery show because you are! The last six weeks of your Art IV experience will be devoted to your own Art Show consisting of your Art IV thesis works and portfolio from previous years. It will be a retrospective of your high school Art experience!

First, the fall semester will consist of 4 Major pieces that are unified by an underlying idea that has visual and/or conceptual coherence. I want the pieces to come from your individual interests and issues that you want to investigate and develop. The spring semester will consist of 4 works furthering the development of your strengths.

You will also have 4 minor pieces (one per major piece). These will be studies in the media of the major piece. They do not have to follow the theme. They must be a completed work of art!

Grading- There will be 7 grades for each grading period. They are:

Art IV Painting and Drawing 1st Assignment.

For the first assignment of the 2012/13 school year students will be creating a self portrait. 

Students will pick the media and art style (or artist) technique.

An artist statement will accompany the portrait that explains the researched art style (1st paragraph) and how and why it relates to the portrait (2nd paragraph).

Work must be at least 12in x 12in.

Photos will be taken in class from the photo stations.
