Painting/Drawing IV Fall Semester Assignments: Artist Focus

This year you will be creating a series of artworks with a common theme(s).  Imagine that you are creating artwork for your own gallery show because you are! The last six weeks of your Art IV experience will be devoted to your own Art Show consisting of your Art IV thesis works and portfolio from previous years. It will be a retrospective of your high school Art experience!

First, the fall semester will consist of 5 pieces that are unified by an underlying idea that has visual and/or conceptual coherence. I want the pieces to come from your individual interests and issues that you want to investigate and develop. The spring semester will consist of 4 works furthering the developement of your strengths.

The first Official piece will have the most requirements..

1) Complete the questionaire in the next post. Be as descriptive as possible! It must be typed with correct use of grammar. It will be due Monday the 29th along with..

2) A portfolio of your work. Locate all the things you have worked on up to this point, throw them in a portfolio/box/pillow case and bring em' in. You are all new students to me and I need to see what you have done. It makes sense when you read the questionaire mentioned in part 1. Trust me.

3) While you are doing your homework mentioned in 1 & 2 outside of class, in class you will be working on a self portrait. This self portrait will be the best self portrait you have ever done and will be in the medium you feel most successful with. It must be atleast 24" in width. Height is up to you. This is a portait of you as an Artist.

4) More homework. Sorry.. but not really. Create a mind map of different potential project ideas in your Black Book. Start out broad and slowly develop the idea into something specific and interesting.  Do not pre judge your ideas or worry about what I will say about them.  A concept that starts off boring could end up interesting with the right development.  You will end up making the other 4 projects this semester focusing on that idea. The idea is the main focus- not the media in which you will be creating the works from. So stay focused on that idea focus.

5) There's more? Yes. You will be grouped with five other students. You will meet with these students on Sept 8th and discuss your ideas so be prepared.
